1. Body Discovered on Main Street
Two families experienced tragedies on Monday.
At 4:30 am, a Rarden woman notified officers that her father had passed away in his sleep. Medics responded to the scene to confirm that the man was deceased, and deputies contacted the Coroner’s Office. The Coroner released the man to a funeral home.
A worried sister went to her brother’s home for a wellness check and sadly discovered that he had passed away. Since the man had been ill, he was released to the care of a local funeral home.
2. Downed Powerlines Cause Chaos
High winds took down power lines causing chaos and fires around the county on Saturday.
The first report came in at 5 am, of broken poles and downed lines on Gallia Pike. Deputies determined the lines belonged to Frontier and contacted the company, who said they’d try to get there some time that day.

At 10 am, a caller reported a tree down blocking the roadway on Cramer Road. Officers contacted AEP. Just after 1 pm, officers responded to a report of multiple fallen trees blocking the road on White Gravel-McDaniel Road.
At the same time, a caller reported a powerline blocking the road on McDermott Rushtown Road. Another caller reported that downed lines had started a fire, and the fire department was dispatched.

Downed lines were also reported on Owensville Road, Pollock Road, and Waddell Road.
At 2:15 pm, powerlines ignited a brush fire on Houston Hollow Road, and a caller also reported a downed tree blocking Haverhill-Ohio Furnace Road. Downed trees and lines also blocked Greenbriar road and Rarden Creek Road.
Witnesses reported sparking power lines on Sedan Crabtree Road just before 9 pm.
