A burglary in progress turned into a high-stakes manhunt on Dogwood Ridge Road as deputies responded to a report of a stranger caught red-handed in a man’s garage!
Just after 6 p.m., a homeowner returned to find a shirtless intruder rifling through his garage. Quick-thinking deputies launched a search for the tattooed thief, sweeping nearby ballfields and a trailer park.
CAUGHT AND HANDCUFFED AT GUNPOINT
A Scioto County Sheriff’s Deputy tracked down the suspect in the trailer park, ordering him to the ground at gunpoint before taking him into custody. But that wasn’t all—the suspect, was also wanted on open warrants out of Pickaway County!
HEART TROUBLE OR A STALLING TACTIC?
In a bizarre twist, the suspect complained of chest pains—forcing EMS to be called. However, due to the EMS shortage plaguing the county, the man faced a delay in medical attention as Porter Township EMS was on another call. Both Portsmouth Ambulance and EMT Ohio had no crews available, and it took a squad from Green Township to transport the suspect to the hospital.
Once at Southern Ohio Medical Center, deputies stood by until the man was checked out and cleared, before being released back into custody just before 10 p.m.
OFF TO JAIL
With his medical scare behind him, the burglary suspect was finally booked into the Scioto County Jail—likely regretting his bad decisions and failed escape attempt!
