Deputies and CPS stepped in after a Porter Township boy refused to return to his roach-infested home.
Around 6:30 pm, the boy’s parents contacted deputies to report their son had gone next door to his grandmother’s and refused to come home.
When officers spoke to the boy, he said he didn’t want to return home because the house is infested with roaches that crawl all over him and his siblings.
The mother did not deny the problem and when officers went inside to check, they discovered a major issue in the home.
Deputies contacted CPS. The two oldest children went to stay with their grandmother, while the mother agreed to take the youngest child to a family friend’s home for the night.
CPS said they would follow up on the situation in the morning.
