Brenda Sue Cobb, 75, of Portsmouth, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at her childhood home in West Portsmouth. She was born on February 16, 1950, in Portsmouth, a daughter of the late Clarence Buford and Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Joy Dixon Bloomer.
Brenda graduated from Portsmouth West High School in 1968. She then went on to obtain a Bachelor of Education from Ohio University, where she became a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma sorority. Brenda taught school at the former Friendship, Jenkins and Nauvoo Elementary Schools, and at Portsmouth West Elementary.
Brenda was an active member of Coles Boulevard Church, where she was the church pianist. She also had a very active card ministry, encouraging others in their daily lives, and inviting them to church events, making a profound impact on all who knew her. A truly compassionate woman, Brenda wanted to be a light, and never and a burden to others, always put others above herself. She was also a gifted singer, and as a younger woman, she toured with several singing groups. Among the many things Brenda was known for was acting as “Safety Sadie”, always worrying about others, keeping them updated on bad weather, and checking on her family if she heard sirens. She loved eating out, Hallmark movies, Law and Order, and Christian music.
Surviving Brenda is her husband, Charles Allen Cobb, whom she married on November 20, 1982, at Turkey Creek Freewill Baptist Church. She selflessly cared for Charles in her final years, sacrificing so much, but doing so with great love. Brenda is also survived by “the light of her life”, daughter, Hannah (Drew) Howard of Portsmouth; three siblings, John Phillip Bloomer and Kathy Joy Bloomer, both of West Portsmouth, and Cheryl Jean (Dennis) Chamberlin of Irwin, PA; her two beloved grandsons, Holden and Hendrix Howard; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by a brother, Stephen C. Bloomer.
Funeral services will be held at Coles Boulevard Church on Saturday, January 3, 2025, at 2 P.M. with Pastor Darrel Musick officiating. Interment will be in Friendship Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the church from noon until the funeral hour. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth. Online condolences may be shared at RalphFScott.com.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Coles Boulevard Church, 1300 Coles Blvd., Portsmouth, OH 45662 and Mt. Hope Bible Camp, 3162 Mt. Hope Rd., Otway, OH 45657.
