Bryan Wesley Copas age 64, of McDermott, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Kettering Main Hospital in Dayton, OH. He was born on October 20, 1960, to the late Robert and Etta (Rigsby) Copas.Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Stephanie Lacey.
Bryan proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army before retiring. He had a deep love for the open road and spent many years trucking across the country, making countless memories and friendships along the way. Later in life, he found joy in what he called his “wind therapy,” riding his Honda Shadow 1300 and embracing the freedom of the highway. His favorite football teams were the Denver Broncos and The Ohio State Buckeyes, and he never missed a chance to cheer them on.
Bryan is survived by his son, Landon Copas; his loving partner, Sandy Copas; his best friend and road buddy, Linus Guntle; his nephew, Zachary Sexton; and his cousins, Steve “Bird” Copas, Julie Copas, and Arnold Brickey. He also leaves behind his lifelong friends, Tim and Brenda Berry, along with his dear friend, Rick Toliver, as well as many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
His legacy is one of loyalty, adventure, and a love for life on the road. He will be remembered for his strength, his humor, and his ability to find joy in life’s simple freedoms.
Funeral services will be 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at the Roger W. Davis Funeral Home in West Portsmouth with military rites by the James Dickey Post 23 American Legion.
