Local businesses were terrorized by strange letters and kids report being followed by a man in a van. We break down the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Banks Receive Suspicious Letters
Two local banks reported receiving a strange letter. An employee of Citizens Bank contacted police at 9:30 am to report a weird message left in their dropbox.
PNC bank also received a similar strange letter written on legal paper in their dropbox.
Police impounded the letters and took information for a report.
The Portsmouth Post Office contacted police at 10:23 am to report a strange note left on an employee’s windshield.
Stolen Vehicle Recovered
Just after noon, a caller contacted police to say that the vehicle he’d reported stolen the previous day was spotted parked on 5th Street.
Police located the vehicle and released it to the father of the deceased owner.
Facebook Fight
A woman contacted police at 1 pm to report that a woman was headed to her house to fight her over a Facebook cell phone transaction gone wrong.
Hey, That’s My Stuff!
A man contacted police at 1:13 pm to report money missing from his bank account. Police took information for a report.
Helping Hand
EMS personnel responded to Mabert road to help a 400lb man who fell. He refused to go to the hospital.
Man in Van Reported Following Kids
A group of kids stopped at a Franklin Avenue home to ask for help after they claimed a man in a maroon van followed them and recorded them.
The children were advised to contact the police if an incident like this happens again. Officers advised them to carry their phones and record anyone who menaced them.
At the same time, a man contacted police to report that some kids kicked over trash cans and that he’d followed them and filmed them. Police determined no child predator was involved.
Grand Theft Auto
A citizen reported a camper stolen from Market Street at 2:34 pm. Officers took information for a report.
Suspicious Activity
A pawn shop contacted police to report suspicious items brought into the business. A man brought in items that appeared to be stolen from either a church or place that hosts large gatherings. Among the items were microphones and large speakers.
Police attempted to contact members of a local church who caught a thief in the act previously but were unable to find out if the items were connected.
Man Clocked on Noggin at Richard Noggins
A man reported being hit on the head during a bar fight at Richard Noggins just after 2 am. Police found the man outside the building bleeding and staggering.
He said he was hit on the head with a beer bottle and then punched in the mouth.
The man’s girlfriend said he was injured when he attempted to intervene when their friend was being mistreated by a boyfriend and the man assaulted him.
Portsmouth Ambulance medics treated the man. He did not want to press charges. The pair were told to stay out of the bar.
