We told you earlier in the week about a man and woman busted using dangerous intoxicants in a parking lot in Wheelersburg. Officers took their dog and towed their car, but the saga continued.
It started with a suspicious car. Then came the public peeing, an aggressive pit bull, and two arrests. But in true small-town crime saga fashion… it didn’t end there.
Police have been called to the Rite Aid parking lot in Wheelersburg multiple times in recent weeks for suspected drug activity inside a vehicle — and this latest streak may just top them all.
While investigating the area, officers spotted a man urinating in plain view. As they approached the vehicle, things got messier — including a lunging pit bull, two suspicious suspects, and signs of drug-related behavior.
Officers detained Whyette Copas and Jazmyn Byerly, calling for an ambulance, though both refused medical treatment. The Scioto County Dog Warden was summoned to handle the agitated dog. The pair were arrested for Abusing Harmful Intoxicants and booked into the Scioto County Jail.
⚖️ THE AFTERMATH… AND THE SEQUEL NO ONE ASKED FOR
- Copas appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court and was released on his own recognizance.
- Byerly? She walked, too — only to be arrested again on the same charge three days later.
- She was released yet again, with a pre-trial hearing set for September.
🆕 THE NEXT-DAY DRAMA
Barely out of jail, Byerly and Copas reunited with their dog and vehicle… and were soon reported for suspicious behavior on Lang Slocum Ridge Road.
📞 Callers later spotted their vehicle at the Wheelersburg ball fields. Once again, police took Byerly into custody and called the Dog Warden to reclaim the pit bull.
🚫 Officers also trespassed the pair from all Wheelersburg Schools property, but let Copas go since he wasn’t intoxicated at the time. Byerly was booked — again — into the Scioto County Jail.
💡 How Not to Land Yourself Back in Jail
- 🚫 Don’t revisit the scene of your last arrest — or anywhere you’ve been trespassed.
- 🐕 If your pet keeps ending up in police custody, rethink your choices before they do.
- 🧠 Remember: jail is not a revolving door… even if you treat it like one.
- 📍 Stay off school property if you’re banned — the cops will be called.
Because in Wheelersburg, it turns out some people just can’t resist an encore arrest — and their pit bull seems to be along for the ride every time.
