Let’s breakdown the weekend chaos around the county and highlight the frontline heroes that came to the aid and rescue of our friends and neighbors.

From domestic disputes to emergency medical runs and a flurry of false alarms, it was a hectic day for first responders across Scioto County on Friday, May 16. Sheriff’s deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel were dispatched across the region to handle everything from drug complaints to disabled vehicles.

Unfortunately, due to a policy change by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office earlier this year, Scioto County Daily News no longer receives detailed call logs from the department. While this limits our ability to provide the in-depth reporting we’ve delivered in the past, we remain dedicated to transparency and will continue to share every bit of public safety information available.

 Saturday

From routine patrols to high-stress medical calls and crime investigations, Scioto County’s emergency personnel handled dozens of situations with professionalism and speed.

May 17, 2025, brings 69 calls to Sheriff’s Office—ranging from squad runs to crime reports across the county

First responders had their hands full on Saturday, May 17, as dispatchers logged nearly 70 calls spanning emergency medical runs, road hazards, alarms, thefts, and a robbery. Here’s a breakdown of what kept the county’s EMS, fire, and law enforcement personnel busy.

Medical & Fire Responses Dominate the Day

EMS calls led the activity with 21 medical squad runs, signaling everything from routine transports to emergency incidents:

  • Transported Patients: 11 calls resulted in patients being transported to medical facilities. Locations included Pirate Drive, Kinker Road, Woods Ridge Road, Gallia Pike, Havenwood Drive, and McDermott Pond Creek Road.

  • Notable Sites: Squad calls were made to public locations such as Subway Wheelersburg, River Run on Gallia Pike, and SOMC Urgent Care on Ohio River Road.

One emergency run (Signal 27) was logged at Havenwood Drive, though it resulted in standard patient transport.

Traffic Troubles on Local Roads

8 traffic-related incidents disrupted travel around the county:

  • Blocked Roads: Trouble spots included Lincoln Street, Johnson & Oak Street, Dehner Street, Mt. Carmel Road, and the Shawnee State Campground.
  • Crashes: A non-injury accident was reported at Center Street & Ohio River Road, while an injury crash was logged and later canceled at Center Street/US Hwy 52 to River Road.
  • Traffic Offense: A traffic violation was handled at Taft Street and Harrisonville Avenue.

Law enforcement responded to a series of criminal incidents that included burglary, theft, and a robbery:

  • Burglary:
  • Pollock Road: Reported as a standard burglary.
  • Disterdick Lane: Reported as a burglary in progress with multiple units dispatched.
  • Robbery:
A robbery occurred at Dollar General in Rosemount, leading to a full investigation and report.

  • Stolen Vehicle: Logged at Diehlman Branch Road.
  • Suspicious Vehicles:

Additional Police Activity

Beyond major crimes, deputies responded to:

  • Alarms (False or Investigated): 6 incidents at various businesses and residences including Rubyville Community Church, Tenth Street, and Feurt Hill Road.
  • Civil Processes: 5 service attempts across locations like Iroquois Avenue and Slate Run Road.
  • Complaints:
  • Neighbor Complaint: St. Rte 772.
  • Juvenile Complaint: Bradford Street.
  • Animal Complaint: Henley Deemer Road.
  • Narcotics Complaint: Subway Wheelersburg—a warning was issued.
  • Fight Call: Officers responded to a disturbance on West Avenue, but the subjects were gone on arrival.
  • Prowler Alert: A prowler was reported on Bradford Street, prompting an investigation.

Patrols and Public Presence

Deputies logged three separate on-patrol activities in Clay Township, Dixon Mill Road, and South Street, ensuring visibility and routine checks in the community.

Final Tally

  • Total EMS/Fire Runs: 21
  • Traffic-Related Incidents: 8
  • Criminal Reports: 10 (including 1 robbery, 2 burglaries, 2 thefts, 1 stolen vehicle, 2 suspicious vehicle calls, and 2 narcotics/juvenile cases)
  • Complaints & Community Support: Multiple civil assists, alarms, and complaints rounded out the day.

With emergency crews racing from rural roads to busy businesses, May 17 proved that in Scioto County, public safety never takes a day off.

Sunday

From dawn till well past dusk, Sunday, May 18, proved to be another packed day for Scioto County’s emergency responders, with 74 total calls logged by the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), EMS, and fire services. Calls ranged from medical emergencies and suspicious activity to false alarms and traffic violations across neighborhoods, businesses, parks, and highways.

Medical Mayhem: 31 EMS Calls Across the County

The biggest chunk of the day’s action came in the form of 31 emergency squad runs, most of which involved medical transports. Areas with multiple medical responses included:

  • Fairview Avenue — 2 calls
  • Dogwood Ridge Road — 2 calls
  • Big Spruce Little Bear Creek Road — 2 calls
  • SOMC Facilities — including both Urgent Care and Premier Health & Recovery

Notably, multiple calls were not transport-related, indicating some situations were either stabilized on-scene or did not require further care. Emergency units were dispatched all the way from Riverview Avenue to Henley Deemer Road, showing just how widespread the need was.

Crime Watch: From Domestic Disputes to Vandalism

Criminal and suspicious activity made up a significant portion of Sunday’s calls, including:

Please Support This Local Business
  • 3 domestic complaints, including incidents on Park Street, Bond Road, and State Route 335
  • 2 juvenile complaints, one at Gun Barn on US Hwy 52 and another on Norwich Avenue
  • 1 narcotics-related call on 12th Street, resulting in a transport
  • 1 vandalism case on Garden Avenue, with a report taken
  • 6 suspicious vehicle/person reports across Riverside Park, Hogan Street, Ainsley Avenue, and Bennett Street

Other investigative calls were logged at Porter Township Park, Old Scioto Trail, and Rigrish Road, indicating a busy day for deputies staying on top of community concerns.

False Alarms Galore: 13 Alarm Drops

False and investigatory alarms kept officers moving, with 13 alarm drops recorded across local businesses and residences:

  • Big Sandy, Quality Car & Truck Leasing, United Dairy, and Glockner Auto Credit were among commercial sites triggering alarms.
  • False alarms at residential sites such as Canterbury Road, Oak Street, and Sherborne Road rounded out the list.

Fortunately, the majority were confirmed as either false or required no further action, but still drew resources away from other areas.

Traffic, ATV, and Civil Calls

Additional calls included:

  • 3 traffic offenses, primarily warnings issued on 17th Street, Walmart Way, and State Route 239
  • 1 motorcycle/ATV complaint on Riverview Avenue
  • 1 injury accident at Hackworth Hill Road & State Route 772
  • 3 civil process services and 2 follow-ups conducted in residential neighborhoods

The Big Picture

Scioto County’s first responders worked around the clock to handle a wide variety of incidents, from life-threatening emergencies to routine patrol work. The volume of calls once again highlights the daily balancing act local agencies perform — managing medical transports, keeping the peace, and investigating suspicious activity while still responding to numerous non-critical alarm drops and complaints.

Whether it’s a heart attack, a hang-up call, or a high-speed ATV complaint, Scioto County’s boots on the ground were moving fast to keep the community safe.

While we may no longer get the play-by-play from the Sheriff’s Office, Scioto County Daily News is still here to keep you informed. Count on us to spotlight what matters, even with fewer tools in the toolbox.
