Carolyn Lou Brooks Ruth, 81, of Batavia, OH., formerly of South Portsmouth, KY., passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at home surrounded by family. Carolyn was born on October 25, 1943, in Stout, OH., the daughter of the late Trula Flinders Brooks and Lorin Brooks.
Carolyn was a retired Registered Nurse from Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was an active member of the Parish Nursing Program working to promote health and well being with the First Christian Church in South Shore, KY. While a nurse at SOMC she led a program to reduce children’s fear during hospital visits by giving each child a Teddy Bear. She was a member of the First Christian Church in South Shore, KY., and attended the Glen Este Church of Christ in Batavia, OH.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert Lamar Ruth; twin sister, Marilyn Sue Armstrong; sister, Lorna Kay Sapp.
Left behind to cherish her memory are three daughters, Lisa (Greg) Pass of Independence, KY., Lori (Dean) Schultz of Batavia, OH., and Krista Jull of Mills River, NC; one sister, Emma Jane Flinders of MT Sterling, KY; one brother, Richard Brooks, of Maysville, KY; seven grandchildren, Ashley Miller (Tyler), Caleb Pass (Heather), Bailey Schultz, Darren Wallace, Abby Brooks (Josh), Anwyn Reese (Jackie) and Ellie Jull; four great-grandchildren, Emmy Miller, Genevieve Pass, Leo Miller and Griffin Pass.
Funeral services will be 1 P.M. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore, KY., with Brett Unger officiating. Burial will follow at Lewis County Memory Gardens in Lewis County, KY. Visitation for family and friends will be on Saturday at the funeral home from 11 A.M. until the funeral hour.
