Cathy Coleman Still Fighting: Family Shuts Down Hospice Rumors, Says Recovery Still Underway

Despite circulating rumors, Scioto County Commissioner Cathy Coleman has not been moved to hospice care, her family confirmed this week.

In a heartfelt statement shared by her granddaughter, the family firmly clarified:

“I’ve had multiple people message and text asking if Cathy Coleman has been moved to hospice. That is NOT TRUE. Hospice may be up for discussion later on, but not now. She’s slowly showing signs of improvement, but is still critical.”

The public update comes amid an ongoing wave of concern, speculation, and support for the beloved commissioner, who has been hospitalized since a devastating car crash in early May. Since then, Coleman has undergone 17 surgeries in less than two months—a staggering number that illustrates the seriousness of her condition and the resilience of her spirit.

Slow but Steady Progress

Family members say that while Coleman’s progress has been gradual, it is undeniable:

  • She is responding to commands, including moving her toes and answering questions with head movements.
  • Her white blood cell count is nearly normal, a good sign in her recovery from infection.
  • She’s tolerating medications and tube feedings aimed at restoring digestive function.
  • Her blood pressure has stabilized enough to be managed with oral medication rather than an arterial line.

The possibility of moving her from intensive care to a step-down ICU unit is under discussion, depending on continued stability. While she remains in critical condition, doctors and family are now focused on giving her time to rest and gain strength before any further decisions are made.

‘She’s Been Through So Much’

“She’s been through a lot, and we are giving her some extra time to recover and show signs of improvement,” her granddaughter said.

The family continues to ask the public for patience, understanding, and—most importantly—prayers. They say that although the road ahead remains uncertain, the support from the community has been overwhelming and uplifting.

“Just wanted to clarify! Continue the prayers, thank you ❤️‍🩹🙏🏼”

Scioto County Still Standing With Her

From courthouse colleagues to everyday citizens, the outpouring of love for Cathy Coleman hasn’t let up. Commissioners Bryan Davis and Scottie Powell have both reiterated their confidence in her fighting spirit and the power of collective prayer.

“She’s a warrior,” said Powell. “We’re still believing for a miracle.”
