Charles Leroy Queen, 70, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, passed away at Southern Ohio Medical Center on Saturday, April 5th.
He was the third son of the late John Edward and Ada (Roof) Queen. Charlie was also preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Joyce (Walker) McGinnis, father-in-law, Milford Russell, and brother, Lowell Queen.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Nina (Russell) Queen, whom he married in 1973; sons Charles Russell Queen (Abbey) of Portsmouth and Seth Benjamin Queen (Melissa)of Bainbridge; grandchildren Teagen Queen-Brown (Brandon) of Batavia,Trevor Queen of Sciotoville, and Lorelai Queen of Bainbridge. He is also survived by brothers John Queen (Debbie) of Wheelersburg and Glen Queen (Sherrie) of Portsmouth; sisters-in-law Norma Flinders of Franklin Furnace, Neva Rakovan of Pittsburgh, Naomi Shelpman of Wheelersburg, and Debra McBride (Mike)of Sciotoville; and many nieces, nephews, friends, and colleagues.
Charlie attended Vernon Elementary School and Bloom Local High School and was president of the class of 1972.
Charlie was known for his kindness and humor. He dedicated his life to service and helped anyone in need. He was mistaken for Santa Claus many times and always wore a red hat during the Christmas holidays. His greatest joy lay in his love of his family and a strong desire to improve the lives of children.
His most admirable quality was the ability to assume a leadership role with logical pragmatism and work with others to accomplish important goals.
Charlie served over 40 years in the roles of president and vice president of the Board of Education in Bloom-Vernon Local School District.
He was employed at Gallia County Rural Water Association and completed 50 years of service in the water filtration and distribution industry. He attained a Class IV Water Treatment license which is the highest level in the state of Ohio. He also received the Operator of the Year award several times during his career.

Because of his everyman demeanor, many people were unaware of the brilliant intellect that shaped and informed his decision making.
We all want to change the world, and Charlie endeavored to add value to the lives of all who knew him.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 PM Wednesday, April 9, 2025 at D.W. Swick Funeral Home in South Webster. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, April 10, 2025 at 1:00PM at the funeral home with a visitation one hour prior to services with Pastor Merit Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Vernon Cemetery.
