What began as a Christmas Day report of a child left alone in a vehicle quickly escalated into a reckless driving BOLO, a reported physical altercation heard over a 911 call, and a multi-agency response that ended with two people facing child endangerment charges.
Hear the 911 Call
Just after 9 p.m., the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office issued a BOLO for a green Ford Fiesta after reports that a woman had left her child unattended in the car for 20 to 25 minutes in Wheelersburg.
According to dispatch information, when the woman returned she jumped into the vehicle and sped off westbound on Ohio River Road toward Lowe’s, driving recklessly with the child still inside.
As dispatchers transferred the call to the Ohio State Highway Patrol and gathered additional details, the situation intensified. A male connected to the vehicle began yelling and cursing, and what sounded like an active physical altercation could be heard on the 911 line.
Multiple units were dispatched, including sheriff’s deputies and Portsmouth police. Deputies later advised that Portsmouth units could be disregarded, and agencies including OSP and New Boston Police were updated on the BOLO before being told to stand down.
CPS Called, Child Placed With Family
Deputies ultimately detained a man, searched his vehicle, and requested Child Protective Services respond. Officers learned the child was in the custody of the male suspect’s grandmother, and deputies stood by until the female suspect’s mother could arrive to take custody.
As part of the unfolding investigation, the Sheriff’s Office asked Portsmouth police to respond to a Kentland Avenue address to locate Reese Glispie, who had been identified during the BOLO.
Officers located Glispie at the residence and notified the Sheriff’s Office. A child found on scene was removed and placed in the care of grandparents.
Arrests and Court Action
Glispie and Aaron Brown were arrested and booked into the Scioto County Jail on charges of endangering children.
Glispie later appeared in Portsmouth Municipal Court, where she was fingerprinted and released on her own recognizance. Her pretrial hearing is set for January 27.
Brown also appeared in court and was released on his own recognizance with the same January 27 pretrial date. Court records show Brown has prior arrests for assault and reckless operation of a motor vehicle.
