Child Molester Confesses To Prayer Line: Portsmouth Police Reports

A man called a prayer line to confess to molesting a child and first responders revived two overdose victims on Kendall Avenue. We hit the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.

Suspicious at Speedway

Just before 1am, a caller reported an apparently high woman nodding off at Speedway. When officers arrived, the woman explained that she got into an argument with the caller because he thought she was taking too long to order from the self-serve touch screen.

The man accused her of being high. Police performed a sobriety test on the woman and said she showed no indication of intoxication.

At 1:33 am, police responded to a report of a found wallet at the gas station. However, the owner came in and picked it up.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

  • A man contacted police at 2:41 to report a break-in at his home on 11th Street. Officers took information for a report.
  • At 3:02 am, a Thomas Avenue caller asked officers to check outside her home. She heard noises outside and thought it looked as if her car door was open. Officers checked and said everything was fine.
  • Just before 7:30 am, a caller reported finding their stolen vehicle on 10th Street. They blocked it in with a pickup truck. Police could not determine who took the vehicle. Officers returned it to the owner.
  • A mom contacted police to report money missing from her adult son’s bank account at 8:26 am. Police told her to have the son contact them.
  • At 12:15 pm a man complained his daughter stole several items from his Grandview home while he was in jail overnight. Police took information for a report.

Under the Influence

  • EMS personnel revived a woman with Narcan at the Woodbine Apartments just after 8 am. An ambulance transported her to SOMC.
  • At 11:37 am, a caller reported an apparently high woman asking for money in the parking lot at Kroger. She was also looking inside cars. Police advised her to leave the parking lot.
  • A Kinneys Lane caller complained of someone dealing drugs out of a vehicle in an alley at 2:18 pm. There was no one in the vehicle when police arrived.

Known and Wanted

Just before 11 am, a caller reported several people in a vacant home on Broadway. Police discovered a man and a woman with multiple warrants and took them into custody.

Fifteen minutes later a traffic stop led police to another person with open warrants. He also had meth on him. Police arrested him and transported him to the jail.

Police Unable To Do Welfare Check

Police attempted to do a welfare check on a couple with a history of drug use. Family members weren’t able to contact them and were very concerned. Their car at the home but no one answered the door.

Officers said Children Services had attempted to contact them multiple times with no answer and there was a CPS card in the door.

Officers also noticed several dogs in their yard but felt it was a safety issue to go back there.

Indecent Exposure at Tracy Park

At 7 pm, a caller reported a man urinating in front of children in the park. Police found a man matching the description and cautioned him.

Shots Reported on Terrace Street

At 5:10 pm, a caller reported gunshots coming from a home on Terrace.

When police investigated, they discovered someone had started a lawnmower for the first time this year and it was making a little noise.

Anonymous Caller Confesses To Child Abuse

A man called a prayer hotline to confess molesting his little girl but didn’t leave much information. The prayer line contacted New Boston Police officers to find help for the child.

NBPD contacted Portsmouth because the number he called from belonged to a Portsmouth address. However, it turned out the addresses hadn’t belonged to that person for 20 years.

First Responders Revive Two Overdose Victims

First responders saved two overdose victims on Kendall Avenue just after 7:30 pm.

A caller reported an overdose in the field between the Oasis Convenient Mart and Woodbine Apartments at 7:38 pm.

Police discovered two people unconscious on the ground. The Portsmouth Fire Department administered Narcan to both victims. Officers released them into the care of friends.

Thief Steals Fence from 5th Street Yard

Proving that thieves will take absolutely anything, a 6th Street man reported a guy stole the poles from the top of his fence. He followed the man to a home on Dexter.

The homeowner managed to retrieve the top rale of the fence from the roadway. Officers said the people at the Dexter Street home were uncooperative.

Suspicious Activity

A man police have arrested 40 times caused a commotion on Findlay Street at 11 pm. A caller reported someone screaming in the dumpster behind Auto Stylz.

Police advised him to go somewhere and be quiet or they’d be forced to take him into custody.
