Christine Ann Gardner, 76, of Otway, died Tuesday, September 21, 2021, at Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was born November 10, 1944, in Columbus, OH to the late William and Suzanne (Snyder) McGovern. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jamie Gardner.
Christine retired as a secretary from Notre Dame High School, a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in West Portsmouth, a long-time member of Our Lady of Sorrows Choir, and volunteered with St. Francis Outreach Center.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, James Gardner, two daughters; Jennifer Gardner, of Otway, Jill Breidert (Scott), of Frankfort, KY, brothers; John McGovern (Gertrude), of Columbus, IN, William McGovern, of Rancho Cordova, CA, a sister, Suzanne Monroe (Steve), of Hermitage, PA, two grandchildren; Clara and Evelyn, along with her special friend, Kathy Milligan, many nieces and nephews, and her special cat, Agnes.
Visitation will be from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM Sunday, September 26, 2021, at Melcher Hammer Funeral Home in Portsmouth with a Recitation of the Rosary at 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 3:00 PM Monday, September 27, 2021, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in West Portsmouth. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery. Facemasks will be required by all persons while inside the church or the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to the funeral home to help offset expenses.
