A recent incident at a local church may prove the adage that ‘No good deed goes unpunished.’ Thieves spent their Sunday ripping off a local church. Pastor Mike Gifford of the New Life Family Center on Harrisonville Ave contacted officers just after noon on Sunday to report the theft.
Ripped Off The Wall
The pastor advised police that sometime between Friday, June 19, and Sunday, June 21 broke into the church. The pastor said all the doors on the church were locked and secured with chains. Whoever broke into the church damaged both the exterior and interior doors getting into the building.
The thieves helped themselves to a power threader, pressure washer, and took the hot water heater. Also, they ripped several sinks right out of the wall.
Unacceptable Guests
He does have an idea who might have taken the stuff. The church had recently allowed two men to live in an apartment inside the church. The pastor told an officer that the church adopts people in unfortunate circumstances and provides a stable living environment.
They’d recently invited two men to stay but the two guys kept inviting people over to the apartment that the pastor did not find acceptable. He suspected their guests were drug users. He had several conversations with the men, however, they continued to invite unsavory people inside the apartment, even allowing some of them to stay there.
As a result, the pastor asked the gentlemen to leave. The church even hired a moving company to assist the men. The guys were supposed to be moved out by Friday evening but had requested an extra day to continue moving on Saturday.
While the pastor does not suspect the guys who were living there, he is highly suspicious of some of the people the pair associated with.
The church does have video surveillance, and the pastor said he would review the footage to see if anything was captured.
