Portsmouth City Council: Breaking Announcement
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and at the recommendation of Governor DeWine’s recent decisions, Portsmouth City Council has chosen to cancel Monday, March 23, 2020’s meeting and all other Council and related meetings until further notice.
This decision was not made lightly, but for the safety of our Government Leaders and the citizens of our community which is our number one concern.
Prior to this Breaking announcement, the Portsmouth City Council had planned to live-stream their meetings.
The Governor continues to dance around the term “Shelter-in Place”. He says that’s what he means but to issue an official order would come with many exemptions. So, they have tried terms like “Gentle” shelter in place.
As this is an ongoing and ever-developing issue, decisions are being made at the Federal and State levels that have immediate implications on the local level. During this time, our local governing bodies have done extraordinarily well at adapting to changes thrust upon them.
Some of the citizens have commented that local government is being “Reactive” instead of “Proactive”. During an unprecedented time such as this, they have no choice but to be reactive. Normal government procedures don’t come down on an hourly basis. Every town in every State is struggling with the impositions handed down to them.
As a citizenry, our best response is to support our local officials.
