Clayton “Clay” Ray Hatfield, was born the 27th day of July in 1959 to Jack Hatfield and Peggy Lou Gafford in Phoenix, Arizona. He passed away on the 31st day of March 2025, in Tucson, Arizona, where he had retired to.
Clay was a Master Mill Worker who worked for Oak Interiors, Inc that allowed him to travel the country, working in many areas. Clay lived in Ozark, Arkansas and Marietta, Ohio. Both places where he loved to cast a line into the rivers, lakes, or streams and see what kind of fish he could catch. He also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson wherever the open road would take him ending the day with a cold beer in hand, usually making the stories about the fish he caught much larger than they really were.
Clay is survived by his son by choice, Benjamin “Ben” N. Bullard of Winter Haven, Florida and Phoenix, Arizona, whom he adopted many years ago…not legally but by love and humor. He also had many other kids that he took under his wings and raised. He is survived by, Garrett Sweetland, Chadwick Springer, James “J.J.” Zander, Kevin Sweeney, Christopher Dodd, and Gregory Hansen. All of these men were his by choice, his family by choice.
Clay is also survived by his son, Adam Hatfield and his significant other, Tanya Smith of Wittmann, Arizona. Brother, Mark Hatfield of Tucson, Arizona. Grandchildren Morgan and Alexis Hatfield of Phoenix, Arizona.
Clay was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and aunts, and uncles.
Clay will sorely be missed for his optimism, his contagious smile, his courage, and his will to live another day. As we all will mourn his passing, we will also remember that his life had a lot of meaning and purpose to those who he touched on a daily basis.
