The community is standing strong behind the PHS Assistant Coach injured when a player crashed into him on the sidelines during Friday’s PHS/Greenup game in Portsmouth.
Trojan and Musketeer players alike knelt respectfully on the field while concerned PHS staff attended to Assistant Coach David Malone.
Medics arrived shortly afterward to transport Malone to the hospital, while those in attendance cheered Malone off the field. Malone was taken to a Columbus Hospital, where according to multiple sources, he underwent surgery for spine fractures.
Greenup Schools celebrated their one-touchdown victory in the close game on social media, but made sure to ask students and parents to pray for Malone.
Others flooded social media with prayers for Malone, who is also a respected local pastor. Thus far, there has been no official statement on Coach Malone’s condition from Portsmouth City Schools.
