Some would say convicted child sex criminal Rebecca Jones got off easy when the court sentenced her to probation. But sticking to the probation rules has proved to be difficult. She’s violated probation four times in a year.
Traded Drugs for Sex With Boy
Two years ago, police charged the 40-year-old Sciotoville woman with four counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor. According to the police report, a 15-year-old boy’s grandfather caught her in bed with the boy when he went to find out why the child hadn’t shown up at school.
The boy told a detective from the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office that he’d had sexual relations with Jones and that drugs were involved. Detectives got confirmation of that story by checking out some Snapchat videos. Police said there might be other victims.
Early Release
Scioto County Common Pleas Court convicted Jones on one count of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor back in March of 2021. The court sentenced her to 90 days of jail and three years of probation. Jones didn’t even serve the full 90 days. The court ordered her early release on May 11. However, Jones has been far from an ideal probationer.
The first sign of trouble was that she failed to pay her court costs. Since the court ruled Jones indigent, the county picked up the tab for her lawyer, but she was still required to pay court costs.
Suspended Sentence on Theft Charges
Two days after the court sent her a past-due notice, police arrested Jones for theft and probation violation after a shoplifting incident in New Boston. Portsmouth Municipal Court sentenced her to 90 days for shoplifting, but once again, she earned early release when 80 of those days were suspended. Jones served a total of 7 days that time.
Just over a month later, Jones was once again arrested for probation violation. This time she was sentenced to a treatment program and served 40 days.
Served Two Days
On August 16, the court again found her in violation of probation, and she served another 16 days behind bars. Once again, the court sentenced her to a rehab program. Once again, she was several months late with court costs.
Her latest arrest happened on March 21. Jones was found to be in violation of her probation on both the child sex charge and the theft case.
This time, she served only two days in jail, and the court ordered her release.
