A Portsmouth Police Officer was injured while rescuing a small child from a violent kidnapper Tuesday morning.
Just after 2 am, a frantic woman called 9-1-1 to report her ex-boyfriend was on a rampage at her Main Street home.
She said Immanuel Dewayne Manning had slashed her tires, kicked in her door, and assaulted multiple people in her home. The Columbus man then forced another woman with a small child to drive him away from the area.
A deputy spotted him heading west on Gallia Street and pulled the vehicle over near Subway. The officer noted the female driver was sobbing and ordered Manning to exit the vehicle.
Manning refused to comply and began to fight with the deputy. The deputy managed to get one handcuff on the suspect before Manning threw a punch and the two fell against the police cruiser before landing on the ground. The officer was able to hold Manning until backup arrived and was able to help him cuff the suspect.
Both Manning and the officer were transported to SOMC for treatment and later released.
Manning faces a laundry list of serious charges including 2 counts of kidnapping, aggravated burglary, felonious assault on a police officer, assault, and resisting arrest. He’s currently in the Scioto County Jail, waiting for a hearing on Wednesday. The court set bond at $240,000.
Sheriff David Thoroughman said the investigation is still ongoing, and there could be more charges.
