Officers tried to track down a domestic violence suspect but failed to stop him from going after his victim for a second time.
The victim walked into the sheriff’s office at 5:40 pm to report her estranged husband assaulted her. She said the pair were discussing the possibility of his moving back in when he threw her down on the floor, cursed her out, and pinned her against the door.
Officers noted she had multiple abrasions and a loose tooth. They photographed her injuries and began the search for the suspect.
Deputies checked the home, but the suspect wasn’t there, so they told the woman it was safe to return.
Around 8:45 pm, she called officers to say the man had pushed his way into the house, grabbed a loaded gun, and threatened her. She said she had locked all the doors and barricaded her and a child into a bedroom, but he pushed his way in and acted as if he might strike them before leaving the home.
Officers also interviewed the child, who said it was his suggestion that the pair try to hide out in a bedroom.
Officers searched the area for the man and caught up with him on St. Road 243 near County Road 6 in Lawrence County. Police took him into custody on three counts of domestic violence.
