The number of cases of Coronavirus reported by the Scioto County Health Department doesn’t match up to the number reported by the Ohio Department of Health’s COVID-19 website.
If you look on their interactive map, it says Scioto County has nine cases. According to the County Health Department, Scioto County has six.
There was also a discrepancy Saturday when the state reported 7 and the county listed the total as 6. You’ll recall this was an issue last weekend when state numbers didn’t match up to the county’s figures.
Why Don’t Numbers Match?
Last week, the county said the issue was a former Portsmouth resident who now resided in another county. At Tuesday’s County Commissioners’ meeting, Scioto County Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Martin said there were issues with reporting. He complained of the press getting reports of positive results before the Health Department was informed.
As for yesterday’s discrepancy, the Scioto County Health Department says, “As of this morning (19 April 2020) Scioto County has only 6 confirmed COVID-19 cases and no probables. Two of the 6 have recovered from the illness.”
The Health Department says the problem is related to a positve test in Marion. “The confusion, created by the ODH, is because the 7th case attributed to Scioto County is actually a former resident of our county that is currently a guest of the State of Ohio at Marion.’
COVID-19 is running rampant at the Marion Correctional Institution. There have been 1,057 positive tests. Ohio’s prisons report 1,441 cases overall. None of these cases are at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
After the state numbers were released, the Health Department once again stated that there were only six cases in Scioto County.
State Virus Stats
The latest numbers from the Ohio Department of Health stand at:
- Probable Cases – 11,602
- Confirmed Cases – 11,292
- Probable Deaths – 471
- Confirmed Deaths, 471
- ICU Admissions – 765
While that looks like a big jump in cases from yesterday, it’s due to more test results finally coming back. According to ODH numbers only 2 of those cases are brand new.
