The number of cases of possible child abuse and neglect in Scioto County has taxed CPS to the limit and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of those complaints letting up. Deputies accompanied CPS for a welfare check on a child in Clay Township after the school system contacted them about a possible case of abuse.
Officers stood by while CPS interviewed the residents at the home.
CPS decided to do an out-of-home safety plan and send the child to live with a relative while they continue their investigation. CPS placed the child with the relative.
Officers were called to a Wheelersburg home later in the evening after a CPS caseworker investigating a report of possible child abuse reported that the child’s parent had become uncooperative and belligerent.
A half-hour later, deputies accompanied a caseworker to speak to the parents of a teenager about possible drug use. The caseworker worried the visit would not go well, but the deputy reported that everything went smoothly.
Portsmouth officers responded to a hotline call about three children in danger on Sunday evening, but found the adults in the home uncooperative. They contacted CPS who immediately sent a caseworker to the scene.
PPD stood by to assist a CPS worker while she checked on some children at another residence just before 11 p.m.
