A scary incident for a West Portsmouth Neighbor. She called the police around 7:30 pm to report a neighbor showed up at her door with a crossbow in hand, claiming that people were trying to kill him. He asked to be let in, but she refused.
She feared the man might be using alcohol or drugs and that, recently, he’d shot up his own home with a high-powered rifle.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the man standing by his truck. He said some young people came by earlier and called him names, but he didn’t know where they went.
Officers advised him to stay off the neighbor’s property and to call them if he thought someone was attempting to harm him.
Deputies returned again to the house just after 1 am, when the man called 9-1-1 to report someone tried to set his house on fire and that he was barricaded in his home.
When officers arrived, he told police that people were hanging around outside his windows and doors, threatening to set his home on fire.
They checked the area and saw no sign of intruders and noted there were no footprints in the frost on the ground. Officers asked the man if he was using drugs, and he told them he’d used meth a few days previous. Deputies offered to call a squad or to arrange for the fire department to inspect his property. He refused.
