David Lee Scherer, 73, of Portsmouth, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at SOMC in Portsmouth, He was born September 4, 1948, in Portsmouth, a son of the late John Martin and Ruth Elizabeth Seyfried Scherer.
Dave was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a 1967 Notre Dame High School graduate. For more than twenty years, he worked in the shipping & receiving department of the former Sear’s store in downtown Portsmouth, and he later worked as a bartender and at area convenience stores. He loved listening to classic rock music and following the OSU Buckeyes and Cincinnati Reds.
His wife, Alice Stephenson, preceded David in death on November 24, 2019. The couple was married on December 21, 1989, in Greenup, KY.
Surviving are his children, David Tyler Scherer and Megan (Jeff) Kinder, all of Portsmouth; his stepson, Mike Stephenson of Reynoldsburg; five brothers, Ray, Joseph, Danny, Dean and Richard Scherer; six sisters, Carol Peckham, Donna Pickleheimer, Sue Burnside, Diane Lodwick, Lynn Webb, and Ann Bartlett; and one granddaughter, Aleigh Gail Kinder.
David was also preceded in death by his grandson, Zayne Michael Stephenson; and five siblings, Mark, Roger, Jim, Sandra, and Father Gary Scherer.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at Noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. David Glockner officiating and interment in Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the Ralph F. Scott Funeral in Portsmouth Monday from 10-11:30 A.M.
