David Michael Vastine, (35), departed this world Tuesday May 6th at UK hospital surrounded by friends and family after a lifelong battle of chronic asthma. He most recently resided in Maysville, KY, but called Portsmouth, OH home and was a 2009 graduate from Northwest High School of McDermott, OH.
David loved to make others feel good about themselves, whether it was making them look their best while working at Great Clips or just being a compassionate person, helping others realize they matter. He was actively involved in the LGBTQ+ community advocating for equal rights often performing under his alias, Ariel Assault. He was an avid flea market hunter often searching for toys from his childhood, Disney merchandise and Barbie dolls to restore. David had a love of music and would enjoy singing to make others smile. On top of these hobbies and interests he had a special place in his heart for animals, often bringing home stray animals as early as childhood to shower with love and show them the kindness they deserved.
Bubbly, compassionate, creative, hardworking, accepting, caring, imaginative, empathetic, fun, loving, and bright. These are just a few of the many characteristics David possessed, but most of all he was truly loving of everyone and unafraid to be his true, authentic, genuine self.
David was preceded in death by his grandmother Patricia Pritt and most recently his loyal, loving dog Roxanne. He has left behind his partner of 20 years, Jon Todd, along with his mother Michelle Boswell (Doug), father David W. Vastine (Angela), older sister Amber Neal (Chris) and younger sister Victoria Huffman (Justin) who was his biggest cheerleaders. David also leaves behind 2 nieces, Kaydence and Kylie Neal along with many special pets, wonderful friends, cousins, aunts, uncles and a community that will dearly miss him.
David has taken a little piece of all who he has interacted with along with him. The world has lost its brightness, but when the sun begins to shine and the next rainbow appears we’ll all know its David smiling down on us. Making us feel good and brighten our day like he’s known for.
David’s legacy of love and generosity extended beyond his family and friends. As an organ donor, he made the ultimate gift of life, saving the lives of others and leaving an indelible mark on the world. His spirit will continue to shine through. In lieu of flowers donations should be made to your local Humane Society.
