On Saturday afternoon, around 2:30, officers from the Portsmouth Police Department were alerted by a concerned citizen about a grim discovery along the Ohio riverfront, just east of Offnere Street in Portsmouth. Patrol officers responded quickly and confirmed the discovery of human remains near the river’s edge.
Investigators from the Portsmouth Police Department arrived shortly afterward, meticulously processing the scene, while Portsmouth Fire/EMS personnel assisted in the recovery of the deceased. Given the advanced state of decomposition, the identity of the individual remains unknown at this time. The Scioto County Coroner’s Office has transported the remains to Montgomery County for a thorough autopsy.
The police are reaching out for public assistance. Specifically, they are urging other law enforcement agencies with ongoing missing person cases—particularly those near the Ohio River—to get in touch.
