Heroic deputies sprang into action to save an overdose victim, turning to CPR after a dose of Narcan failed to revive the man.
Officers responded to a call at the Speedway on County Road 410 about an overdosed man in a vehicle at the pump. The first deputy on the scene gloved up and gave the unresponsive man a dose of Narcan in an attempt to revive him.
When Narcan failed to revive the man, the officer began CPR. Another deputy arrived to assist, and they continued the lifesaving measures until medics arrived to take over. Lawrence County EMS transported the victim to a Huntington Hospital for treatment.
Deputies spoke to the man’s companion, who said he was not aware that his friend had taken drugs. However, they discovered the man had an open warrant and took him into custody.
Investigators also spoke to a man who said the victim and his friend had been at his house for several hours doing some work on a bathroom and that the victim had been lying down in the car for about two hours. He assumed the man was sleeping.
The victim’s wife said the man had been clean for several years and that if he had done drugs, she suspected it would have been with his friend.
Officers took both men’s phones into evidence and provided reports to detectives.
