Officers launched a desperate search for a woman after an alleged suicide threat on Facebook, and a rescue cat led to threats. We hit the highlights of the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Mayhem at the Four Keys Inn
Just after midnight, a man called the police and said someone had attempted to kill him. Then he changed the story claiming someone chased him and tried to jump him. He claimed he was hiding in the bushes.
The man couldn’t give his location but asked officers to meet him at the Four Keys Inn.
When officers arrived, they discovered an open warrant for the man. Police took him into custody.
Urgent Message For Mom
Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus asked Portsmouth officers to locate the mother of a child in the hospital to deliver a message requesting she call them regarding her daughter.
Officers could not locate the woman. Three people who knew the woman attempted to find her, and police checked four households in an attempt to locate the mother. Officers could not find the woman, but the people they spoke with promised to tell if they saw her.
Cry for Help
At 5:53 am, a woman contacted 911 to report she’d taken multiple bottles of pills. Officers and EMS headed to her apartment to offer help. An ambulance transported her to the hospital.
Just after 7 am, a woman contacted police to report a woman in Wayne Hills had taken several pills and overdosed. She could not provide an exact location, only give a description of the area as she was communicating with the alleged victim via Messenger.
Officers desperately searched the area, even making an announcement over a squad’s PA system to locate her. They were not able to locate the woman.
At 7:30 am, they were finally able to locate the woman. She admitted she was depressed over a recent death in the family but claimed she did not want to hurt herself. She refused medical attention from the Portsmouth Fire Department. Officers gave her the number for the counseling center.
Cat Napping
An Orchard Drive woman contacted officers just before 4 pm to report a strange incident involving a cat rescue.
The woman said she rescued a cat from the alley between Second and Third Streets. She posted the found animal on Facebook and received a call from a person she believed to be the owner. She turned the animal over to that person.
Then another person contacted the woman, claiming the animal was her cat. She made threats to the woman. Police said both people lost similar-looking cats.
