A terrified daughter called 9-1-1 around 11 pm to say her intoxicated mother had just left the house after sending a text threatening to jump in front of a truck. The woman had also been carrying a large knife earlier in the evening and was now headed down US 23 on foot.
Deputies contacted Portsmouth Police and the Ohio State Patrol, and officers began a search for the woman.
There was no one home at her house, though the doors were open. Officers managed to find her near the Four Keys Inn, but she became combative. They called for an ambulance to transport her to the hospital for treatment.
Additionally, they found a large knife left on the steps of a home near the woman’s house. Police impounded it.
Portsmouth Police were also asked to stand by for two other patients in crisis that counselors wanted to involuntarily commit to the hospital. The first call was around 10 am at a local mental health facility, and the second just after 2 pm at a rehab facility. In both cases, an ambulance transported the patient to the hospital for evaluation.
Just before 7 pm, a woman told officers her former boyfriend had threatened to harm himself. Officers went to the man’s home and spoke to him, and he agreed to go with an officer to SOMC for treatment.
