A man claimed a rehab facility dumped him at Kroger with no way to get help plus two Portsmouth thieves failed to cover their tracks and left a trail in the snow in two separate incidents. We break down the highlights from the Portsmouth Police Daily Briefing.

Passed Out At The Pool Hall

Just after 1 am, officers were called to a Gallia Street pool hall. An intoxicated man passed out while getting warm in the building.

Officers took him into custody but the Scioto County Jail refused to accept him. The Portsmouth Fire Department cleared the man medically and officers released him.

Suspicious Vehicle

A Chesnut Street caller reported a vehicle parked in front of his home for quite some time. He said someone was moving around inside the vehicle in a way that made him think something was wrong with the person.

Police took a woman into custody and transported her to the Waverly Police at the county line. An officer stood by until the owner of the vehicle came to pick it up.

Throwing Snowballs

Police were called to Gallia and Mabert at 1:25 am for a report of a man throwing snowballs at cars at 1:25 am.

Police found a man in the area and told him not to throw snowballs. He denied he was the snowball thrower.

Facebook Feud

A Kent Street woman called police just before 5 am to report people beating on her door. She thought it might be connected to a Facebook post.

Police didn’t see anyone in the area when they arrived. The caller asked the offer to accompany her to check her vehicle for damage. They found no damage.

Footprints In The Snow

A taxi driver called the police at 5:19 to report a runaway fare on 5th Street. The customer went inside the house to get payment and never came back. He followed footprints in the snow and discovered the passenger went between two houses and walked away.

An 8th Street business notified PPD just after 8 am that someone cut the fence, busted the windows on three vehicles, and broke in. There was a video of the incident. Police retrieved the video and identified a suspect. They were able to follow the footsteps from the business to the man’s house.

Hey! That’s My Stuff

At 9:19 am, Goodwill on Robinson reported someone cut their fence and stole catalytic converters from trucks.

Road Rage

Just after 2 pm, a Gallia Street caller reported a man in a purple car pointed a gun at him during a road rage incident. Officers took a report.

Still Stalked By A Stranger

A Findlay Street caller who told police a strange woman had attempted to kill him yesterday, called officers back to his home to file a police report for an incident that happened back in September.

He said in addition to trying to run him down the day before, he wanted to file a report about a beating she gave him last all. Police took information for a report.

Scam Call

A woman stopped at the Portsmouth Police Department at 5:30 pm to report an attempted government impersonation scam.

She received a phone call where the caller ID claimed it was from the city. Officers gave her the Attorney General’s contact number.

Victim Tracks Down Thief

A man who tried to pull a fast one on a rent-to-own and an unlucky buyer found himself in trouble at 6:36 pm.

Police answered a call to Summit Street for a report of a disturbance. The scammer’s roommate said a guy was there to beat up his roomie because he sold him stolen merchandise. Merchandise that the rent-to-own place came and picked up.

The man promised to pay the other guy back. Police advised everyone to behave.

Rehab Dumps Man At Kroger?

Officers answered a cry for help at Kroger at 7:14 pm. A man told police he was in a local rehab facility and scheduled to be transported to a facility in Louisville.

Instead, he said the driver dropped him off at Kroger around 3:30 pm and left. The man had no way to get home or to the rehab and was having suicidal thoughts.

Officers arranged for an ambulance to take him to a hospital and went to follow up at the rehab facility.

Thomas Avenue Troubles

Just after 9 pm, officers received a report of a child trapped in a kitchen fire at 1923 Thomas Avenue. Officers discovered there was no trapped child. However,  there were people in the building. The fire department was able to quickly handle the small kitchen fire. Police notified PMHA maintenance.

About 20 minutes later, another Thomas Avenue caller reported a man and woman fighting. She claimed the man said he would use a gun. Officers discovered it was a dispute between neighbors over a kid dumping out trash. There were no firearms involved.
