Portsmouth Police Briefing
Portsmouth Police saw a 37% jump in calls between March 2 and 5th compared to the previous four days. Some calls were pretty serious, others involved investigating a bad case of cramps and a cigarette break.
There were quite a few dog-related disturbances on the police log. Officers were called out twice to a Pleasant Ave. home about custody dispute involving a dog. Both times parties were involved it was a civil matter. Another call involving a report of a man on a roof with a dog on Gallia Street turned out to just be a guy grabbing a smoke with his best friend.
A woman was caught taking clothing out of a charity collection bin for Nationwide Children’s Hospital at the Kroger on Gay Street around 2 in the morning on Monday. She was told to put the clothes back and advised that donation boxes are only for putting items into.
Two men on bicycles stopped around 5 am that same day on Robinson Avenue also said they were dumpster diving. That’s how they explained the property they were carrying with them. Police let them go.
Someone mistook one guy digging for bottles for three guys cooking meth on 9th street near the Goodwill Book Store. No word on if this is the same guy digging for bottles that sparked a police call over the weekend.
A man was taken into custody after being discovered passed out in a truck in the PMHA parking lot on Thomas Avenue. Police were also called to a PHMA residence on 5th street for a disturbance but that just turned out to be a woman suffering from cramps and back pain. Action was needed.
