Deputies trying to perform a welfare check had to deal with 14 angry dogs who didn’t want them anywhere near the house.
When officers knocked on the door and got no answer, they looked into the windows of the Lawrence County home and saw the owner on the floor with a pack of dogs, apparently in the process of consuming him.
Deputies called for the dog warden and busted a hole in a window to make entry into the home. Officers said they’d dealt with the dogs before after reports that the dogs had bitten or attacked neighbors. They used pepper spray through the window to chase the dogs away from their owner’s remains and then kicked in the door to make entry.
Officers said it took nearly an hour to force the dogs back and remove the animals. Officials seized 14 adult dogs and three puppies from the home. The coroner was finally able to take possession of the deceased.
Additionally, officers seized several weapons for safekeeping.
