What started out as a domestic property dispute ended with the fire marshal on the scene of a house fire on Greenbriar Road.
Around 1 pm a woman contacted the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office to say she was heading to the home that belonged to her son and daughter-in-law. She said the son was at work, and a lawyer advised her and her husband to get there and collect property from the house “before she sells everything.”
The wife told them to leave and said she was going inside the home. Dispatch advised the in-laws that you can’t just go into someone’s home. The pair left.
About thirty minutes later, dispatch received a call about a fire at the same address. A woman told them she’d let flames get out of control.
Dispatch asked if the woman had set property on fire, and she said it had started when she was burning books. The woman called back a few minutes later to say the house was on fire.
Minford, Jefferson, Stockdale, and Webster Fire Departments were called to the scene and deputies responded as well because of the domestic incident.

Officers also contacted AEP and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The Fire Marshal arrived around 3:45 pm, and the fire departments cleared the scene at 5:30 pm.
An arrest has not yet been made pending a mental health evaluation and the continuing investigation into the matter.
