Portsmouth was rocked by two sudden deaths on Monday, as emergency crews responded to separate scenes where unresponsive individuals were discovered—both confirmed dead just hours apart.
The first tragedy unfolded around 12:45 p.m., when a witness found an unresponsive man in his 40s at a local residence. Medics arrived and confirmed the man had passed away. Portsmouth Police took information for a report and began the difficult task of notifying next of kin.
Before the shock of the first death could settle, a second call came in—this time from 5th Street, where an unresponsive woman in her 50s was found. Once again, EMS confirmed the worst. Officers contacted the Scioto County Coroner, who approved the release of the woman’s body to a local funeral home.
While the two deaths are not believed to be connected, the back-to-back tragedies left a heavy cloud over the community.
No cause of death has been officially released in either case. Police are continuing their investigations.
These losses serve as a painful reminder of the fragility of life—and the importance of checking in on those around us.
