Dr. Steven Wylie Binns of Portsmouth, Ohio passed peacefully on July 6,2025 at age 64. Steven was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
A proud graduate of Portsmouth High School, Class of 1979. Dr. Binns earned his Doctor of Optometry degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry, Class of 1986. He followed in the footsteps of his father, continuing the family optometry practice and serving his community with dedication and care.
Dr. Binns also served his country as a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy. He was an active member of several civic and fraternal organizations, including the Elks City Club, the Rotary Club, and the Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Benjamin Wylie Binns and Nicola Lee (Thompson) Binns; his wife, Monica Jean Binns; and his brother, Philip Benjamin Binns.
He is survived by his daughters, Audrey(Jared) Matney and Katherine( Ian Hall) Binns; his grandson, Jonah Matney; his brother, Gregory Scott Binns; his niece, Ivy Binns; and his nephew, Wylie Binns.
Steven known better as Steve or Doc Binns will be remembered for his unwavering loyalty to his friends, a sharp wit that could charm a stranger, a generous spirit always ready to lend a hand, and a deep devotion to his family Steven enjoyed the simple things in life like long walks, vacations, a good round of golf, and a cold beer. He would not want those who loved him to mourn, but rather to raise a glass or play a round of golf in his honor. In lieu of flower the family has asked donations be made to the ALS association
Memorial service will be held at the Elks Country Club where Steve regularly communed with God on the Golf Course details will be shared at a later time. The family extends their heartfelt thanks for your condolences and support.
