A late-night domestic call in Minford turned into a hunt across two communities after family members reported an intoxicated man was making threats, trying to get into a gun safe, and threatening to burn down a house with his wife and children inside.
Scioto County deputies were called shortly before 1 a.m.
By the time officers were responding, the man had already left the original location.
The woman told authorities he had gone toward South Webster, and deputies learned she had allegedly been assaulted during the incident. She also reported that the man had threatened to burn down the house while she and the children were inside.
With the man gone and several possible addresses in play, deputies and Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers began trying to find him.
Life360 Helps Track Him
The woman used the Life360 location-sharing app to help authorities narrow down where the man might be.
His location initially appeared to be near one of two homes on Webster Hope Road.
Then investigators received information that he might instead be at a South Jackson Street address.
A RZR associated with him was located there, and authorities were initially told he was inside.
But when a deputy arrived, troopers said the man wasn’t there.
Dispatch contacted the original caller again. The Life360 location had shifted, indicating he could be near another South Jackson Street property.
Deputies checked that area but initially came up empty.
They then returned to the property where the RZR had been located and sought permission from the homeowner to search.
Minutes later, deputies reported one man detained.
OSP contacted the original caller to let her know an arrest had been made.
Property Owner Not Happy About It
The evening wasn’t quite finished.
The homeowner later called dispatch demanding to know why deputies were arresting a man on his property.
The dispatcher explained that they didn’t have all of the details and advised him to contact a supervisor at the Sheriff’s Office in the morning.
According to the log, the caller cussed out the dispatcher and hung up.
The available report does not list the man’s name or specify what charges were filed, so SCDN is not identifying him at this time.
