A group of girls accused of repeatedly bothering a woman and her disabled son on Summit Street got a lesson in consequences Thursday morning.
And this one didn’t come from police.
It came from an adult who made them go back and apologize.
Portsmouth officers were called around 11:30 a.m. after a woman reported that six girls had been knocking on her door and ringing the doorbell, then taking off.
The caller said the girls had been harassing her and her disabled son and were now walking back toward the house with an adult.
When police arrived, they learned what was happening.
An adult woman had brought the children back to the home to apologize for ding-dong ditching the family.
Officers spoke with everyone involved, and Roush left with the children.
No arrests. No charges. No further drama.
Just an adult making a group of kids go back, face the person they had bothered, and say they were sorry.
Sometimes accountability doesn’t need a courtroom.
Sometimes it just needs somebody willing to say, “Turn around. We’re going back.”
