What started as a boozy argument over vegetable soup quickly escalated into chaos as a house fire broke out, firefighters were obstructed, and a man was led away in handcuffs.
SOUP, BEER & A BRAWL
At 1:00 AM, authorities rushed to County Road 66 after reports of a man interfering with firefighters battling a house fire. When officers arrived, a firefighter informed them that the situation stemmed from a domestic dispute between a man and his live-in girlfriend.
The boyfriend, who reeked of smoke and alcohol, admitted they had been drinking when an argument over vegetable soup turned heated. He claimed they got in each other’s faces before his girlfriend told him to leave. Moments later, a mysterious fire erupted outside the home.
WOMAN’S TERRIFYING ESCAPE WITH GRANDKIDS
His girlfriend painted a much darker picture of the night. She told officers they had been downing a 15-pack of beer while making soup when he suddenly became aggressive, poked her, hit her, and knocked off her glasses.
After kicking him out, she heard him banging on the trailer’s exterior. Minutes later, she received a text from him that read:
🚨 “You better get out—there’s smoke.”
When she looked out the window, flames were creeping dangerously close to the trailer. Grabbing her two young grandchildren, she fled for her life and called 911.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES & A SHADY EXCUSE
When confronted, the man denied starting the fire and spun a wild story about someone else staying in the house. He insisted he saw smoke and fire from a house up the hill and texted his girlfriend to warn her.
His version of events, however, was full of holes. His hands were covered in blood, his clothes smelled like smoke, and his timeline didn’t add up.
“IT’S NOT DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BECAUSE WE’RE NOT MARRIED!”
As officers placed him under arrest for Domestic Violence & Arson, he attempted to argue his way out, claiming:
🚔 “It’s not domestic! We’re not even married, and we don’t have kids together!”
Unfortunately for him, the law doesn’t agree—living together in a romantic relationship qualifies under domestic violence statutes.
EVIDENCE LOCKDOWN
Authorities seized his clothing, phone, and took photos of his injuries as evidence. He was transported to the Lawrence County Jail, where he awaits his fate.
