Dude! Where’s My Beer?

Portsmouth Officers were kept busy this weekend. Some thirsty criminals helped themselves to beer right off the truck. Meanwhile, a fed-up mom smacked her son right in the mouth. And then a  man fed up with trash dumped on his property, decided he’d give his problem back to the city. We’re also still seeing a scary spike in ODs and suicide threats.

Suspicious Minds

Friday

  • At 2:43 am, police received a report of a man walking with a large stick near the Chillicothe Street Overpass. He was cautioned about his stick.
  • Just before 9 am police were called to the Four Keys Inn. A man wanted to police to stay while he waited for a cab. He said there were scary guys hanging outside his room.

Go Away Please

Friday

  • Just after 4 am on Friday, officers served a no-trespass order to an unwanted visitor at the Speedway on Gallia Street.
  • Just before 9 pm, a woman called police from her Thomas Avenue apartment to report her boyfriend was screaming and punching things. Turns out the guy had a warrant. He was issued a summons and released.

Saturday

  • Police were called to the Four Keys Inn at 5:26 am for a report of a man threatening a woman.
  • She said he is refusing to leave the area. Police checked around for him and took a report.

Get Off My Lawn

Friday

  • At 6:10 am, police were called to Oakland Blvd for a report of a man driving his truck through his yard. The caller thought the guy might have damaged it. Police advised the man to contact his insurance company.
  • Just after noon, the woman who lived at the home called back to press the issue.

Where’s My Stuff?

Friday

At 5:28 am police were called to the Four Keys Inn on the Scioto Trail for a report of a man and a woman taking items from the room. Police found no one in the room and it didn’t look like anyone had been there for a while.

At 10:43 am a man came into the PPD lobby to report his vehicle had been stolen from the Royal Inn the day before. Police took a report.

ODs and Drugs

Friday

Just before 8 am officers responded to the Royal Inn on Kendall for a report of an unresponsive woman foaming at the mouth. Unfortunately, it turned out she had passed away. The body was taken by the coroner. Police were unsuccessful in initial attempts to notify family members. The family was finally contacted at around 2 pm.

Saturday

  • At 3:10 am, police were called to Wayne Avenue for a report of a man overdosing.
  • Just after 4 pm, a woman called police to report to men shooting up in Grant Street back yard. One man had a warrant with the New Boston Police Department. Police handed him over. They took the other man home to the Woodbine Apartments.
  • At 6:21 pm, police were called to Gallia Street for a report of an overdose. The man refused medical treatment.

Dude, Where’s My Beer?

Friday

Some folks weren’t willing to wait for restaurants and bars to resume business. At 10 am, a beer truck delivery driver called from the Oasis Convenient Mart on 17th Street. He said a group had gathered around his truck and someone even got inside.

The crooks made off with a case of Fireball valued at $66.50.

Homeless on Wheels

Friday

  • Police were called to 6th Street just after 1 for a report of an unwanted camper parked on some property.
  • It turned out that the elderly owner was homeless after her house was condemned.
  • Officers gave her until Monday to move the camper or face having it impounded.

We Need A Hand

At 1:33 pm officers were called to Biggs House to help out with a patient who is unable to walk.

The man had congestive heart failure, lungs filled with fluid, and is unable to walk. T

That’s an issue with transport, as he weighs around 400 lbs.

Call for Help

Friday

Just before 4:30 pm, police were alerted by an alarm company that a Mabert Road woman pressed her alert button and said she was receiving threats.  She told police the threats were coming from an unknown phone number.

Nonsense

Friday

The officer who responded to a call from an angry grandmother was pretty fed up about the call.

It tuned out the call involved her granddaughter who was hanging out in the alley behind her house.

Calling it ‘pure nonsense,’ the officer advised the family that 9-1-1 isn’t for working out family disagreement.

Not My Trash

Friday

It appears a 7th Street resident decided to fight back against the city’s litterbug problem.

He took a Bobcat and used to move trash that was dumped onto his property onto city property.

Hand Over The Kids

Friday

Just after 10 pm, police were called to the Adkins-Brant Funeral Home for a report of a custody issue. A mom said her husband was refusing to hand over the kids to her despite a court order.

Police advised him that he was violating the custody order. He still refused. Police told her to contact her lawyer and take him to court.

No Shirts No Sense

Friday

  • PPD responded to 7th Street at 8:55 pm for a report of neighbors arguing. A door to the residence was damaged during the disagreement.
  • Around 2 hours later, police were summoned back to the same address. The resident had someone come over to fix the door, then the neighbors showed up outside and took off their shirts.
  • Police told them to cut it out.

Meanwhile at Speedway

Saturday

  • Just before 1 am on Saturday, police were called to Speedway. A woman said a man was trying to fight with her over a phone.
  • Employees said they had already separated the two.  The woman told officers she was sexually assaulted but had already reported it. She’d also recently crashed her car in Lawrence County and been charged with an OVI.
  • The man bought the woman a drink from the store.

Later At Speedway

Sunday

Police were called to Gallia Street for a report of a man hanging out in the parking lot at AT&T Wireless and Speedway. He was begging for money. Police advised him to move along.

Smacked In The Mouth

  • Just before 3 am, police were called to Center Street after a dispute with a teen over a tablet got out of hand.
  • A 14-year-old told officers he got into a fight with his parents when they took his tablet away. He admitted that he hit them. He also said his mom smacked him in the mouth.
  • Witnesses said the boy tried to hit his mother and punched in step-dad in the face. That’s when mom got mad and smacked him on the mouth. The child didn’t have any injuries. Step-dad did have a mouth injury.
  • Police issued a warning. Everyone went to bed.

Cries for help

Saturday

  • Police were called at 9:20 to 16th Street. A man said his girlfriend was threatening suicide. She had a knife but had put it down. The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
  • Just after noon, officers were called to Mabert Road for a welfare check. A man had posted videos on Facebook threatening to kill himself. He told officers those were just feelings and he had no intention of actually harming himself. He refused medical treatment.

Try Putting On Shoes

Saturday

  • Just before 4 pm, a woman called officers to her Wayne Avenue Apartment. She said neighbors had left the glass in the yard after busting up a TV and screen door.
  • Her son had stepped in the glass.
  • Police advised her to contact PMHA about the issue and to not allow her son to run around barefoot.

Domestic Battery

Saturday

Police were called to Offnere Street at 6:44 pm. A woman said a man choked her and threw her down the stairs.  Her ribs and head were injured. However, she was gone when the police arrived.

A Boat And A Vision

Saturday

  • Just after 8 pm, police received a strange call from the jail on behalf of an inmate. He said that his girlfriend was living in a boat behind Fred’s Pizza Express.
  • He thought she had overdosed.
  • No one told him about any overdose. He just had a feeling.
  • Police checked the boat. Nobody was inside.

Saturday

At 9:15 pm police got a report about a man on a bike chasing a 15-hear-old in an alley off Mound Street. They took a report.

Drive-Thru Danger

Saturday

  • Police were called to the Taco Bell drive-thru at 10:30 pm for a report of a man beating a child inside a vehicle in the line.
  • He was issued a citation for not having the child in a car seat.
  • Police advised CPS about the allegations of abuse.
