“They are not in great shape,” Commissioner Scottie Powell said in a discussion about plans to improve the baseball fields at Earl Thomas Conley Park. “You start looking at the fence in some of the pictures families have sent. Holes in the fence and the fence falling down.”
Powell said that the fence at the other field was too close in and needed to be moved further out. “This will be funding to really make the ball fields nicer.”
The commissioner said multiple leagues used the fields for activities. In addition to new fencing, the project will include dugouts for the teams. “There’s never been dugouts down there,” Powell said.
“Another great addition to the park,” Commissioner Cathy Coleman said.
“We’re excited about it,” Commissioner Bryan Davis said. “This will open it up to tournaments.”
The county’s American Recovery Act funding will fund the improvements to the Earl Thomas Conley Park Baseball Fields. Commissioners unanimously approved the motion.
