Edward Arnold “Red” Roberts, 79, of Waverly, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 30, 2025 at home surrounded by family. He was born on January 30, 1946 in Winchester, Indiana son of the late Clelland Roberts and Elaine (Beatty) Roberts Wolfe. On September 12, 1970 he was united in marriage to Jill Bryant Roberts who survives. Also surviving are his children, Edward (Sarah) Roberts of Waverly and Elizabeth (Ty) Hoover of Lucasville, Ohio; grandchildren, Mallory Roberts and Gavin Roberts; brother, Kenny (Janet) Roberts of Piketon, Ohio; sister, Connie Brushart of Waverly; mother-in-law, Juanita Bryant and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by two brothers, Roger and Junior Roberts and two sisters, Toni J. Graves and Joyce Sipple.
Red proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, including a tour of duty during the Vietnam War in 1967-1968. Red was in active combat while in Vietnam and served in the 25th infantry division. While in Vietnam, Red was awarded several medals, including a Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 bronze stars, along with several others. After returning home, Red worked in the IBEW as a lineman, then finished his career working in maintenance at Pike Water. He was known for his fun loving spirit and eternal grin. He never met a stranger and lived life with a heart of gold that touched countless people. One of his greatest treasures in life was his family. Red adored his children and grandchildren to no end. He found joy in the simple things – fishing, hunting, spending time outdoors, and riding across the country side. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Private, graveside military services for family only will be held on June 9, 2025 at the Evergreen Union Cemetery in Waverly.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the local American Legion Merritt Post 142 Waverly.
