Edward Rea Krekeler, 60, of Portsmouth, passed away the morning of Monday, September 18, 2023, at SOMC, after suffering from heart complications.
He was born June 21, 1963, in Portsmouth, the son of the late Diana Carol Tener Krekeler and Larry Edward Krekeler. He grew up in the small town of Portsmouth where he played sports and graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1981. He excelled in the construction trades, and if you have seen perfect concrete work around the city, you can almost bet that Eddie had something to do with it.
As a young adult, he married Karen Campbell and they had two children, Nathan and Heather. Nathan eventually served seven years in the U.S. Army and Heather graduated with a Master’s Degree from The Ohio State University. Years later, Eddie married Joyette Vaughn, and they lived and loved for many years in a small, wonderful home on Charles Street in Portsmouth until Joyette passed away on June 8, 2019.
On September 18, 2023, God called Eddie to come home. Those left behind will come together and reminisce on the good times, the laughter, and those moments of love we shared with Edward Rae Krekeler at a private memorial event to be held at a later date.
Surviving Eddie are his children, Nathan Andrew (Kristan) Krekeler of Portsmouth and Heather Nicole (Kristopher Holloway) Krekeler of Reynoldsburg; his sister, Debra (Jack) Tackett of Portsmouth; three grandchildren, Isaiah and Kyree Krekeler, and Mila Holloway; and two half-siblings, Charles (Andrea) Krekeler and Allison (Tom) Sammons.
Eddie was also preceded in death by his brother, Theodore “Ted” Michael Krekeler.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Ralph F. Scott Funeral Home in Portsmouth.
