Elderly Man Begs For Help For Sick Wife – No Ambulance Available
An elderly man attempting to get help for his sick wife discovered the grim reality of the area’s ambulance shortage.
He first called for help at 3 am, reporting that his wife was throwing up and confused.
Dispatch toned the closest squad but received no answer, so they contacted Portsmouth Ambulance, which did not have a crew. Dispatch then called EMT Ohio, which didn’t have a crew available either.
They then turned to the Rush FD and later Nile in search of a squad with no luck.
Dispatch called the man back to explain the delay. He said his wife was doubled over in pain and needed to go to the hospital. He thought about picking her up himself, but he’d recently had back surgery.
Dispatch contacted Pike County, which dispatched a squad around 3:30 am.
