A Logan man who cut his way out of the STAR Community Justice Center earlier this year has now been formally indicted by a Scioto County grand jury.
Jacob Miller, 30, is accused of pulling off a brazen escape from the Franklin Furnace facility on April 26, 2025. Court documents say Miller obtained a pair of pliers around 10:30 a.m. and sliced through an exterior fence before slipping into the woods.
Roughly four hours later, prosecutors allege, Miller broke into a home on Gallia Pike—about three miles from the justice center—where he stole keys, a credit card, and a vehicle from the driveway.
The grand jury returned indictments charging him with:
- Escape
- Vandalism
- Burglary
- Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Theft
This isn’t Miller’s first brush with the law. Back in December, Hocking County charged him with failure to comply, tampering with evidence, trespass, and other offenses. He ultimately pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and was sentenced to community control at STAR. That sentence came to an abrupt end with his April escape, leading Hocking County to revoke his probation.
Miller’s criminal history also includes prior arrests for burglary, felonious assault, grand theft, and breaking and entering. He is scheduled to appear in Scioto County Common Pleas Court on September 19.
