Portsmouth Police officers responded to 6th Street after a caller said a shoeless bald man was going door-to-door asking for food and talking to himself.
When officers caught up with the man, he said he’d just gotten out of prison and thought that someone he knew lived in the neighborhood.
Police said he appeared to be dealing with mental illness but not so much that he couldn’t care for himself. Officers advised him to leave the area, and he complied.
A homeless woman caused an issue at a local nursing home just after 9 am. Staff said she was causing a disturbance, and they were having a hard time getting her to leave.
Officers recognized a woman they’d dealt with many times before and advised her to move along.
