Larry Householder, the former Ohio House Speaker, has been relocated to Oklahoma to commence his federal prison sentence. Householder, aged 64 and a Republican, had been incarcerated at the Butler County Jail in southwestern Ohio since receiving a 20-year sentence on June 29. This sentencing was linked to his involvement in Ohio’s most extensive corruption scheme.
Recent records from the Bureau of Prisons indicate that Householder has been transferred to the federal transfer center in Oklahoma City. His attorney, Steven Bradley, confirmed that Householder’s appeal for release during the appeals process was not granted.
Convicted alongside lobbyist Matt Borges, a former Ohio Republican Party chair, Householder and Borges were found guilty in March on charges of conspiracy to engage in racketeering, bribery, and money laundering. A jury ruled that Householder orchestrated a $60 million bribery plot funded by FirstEnergy Corp., a company based in Akron, to secure power, elect his allies, and support legislation for a $1 billion bailout of nuclear power plants owned by a FirstEnergy affiliate. FirstEnergy has admitted its role in the scheme.
Additionally, two other individuals and a dark money group pleaded guilty, while another charged individual died by suicide.
Borges, aged 51, was handed a five-year sentence, now being served at a federal prison near Ann Arbor in Milan, Michigan.
The government’s investigation into these matters remains ongoing.
