Falling glass almost hit a Portsmouth Pedestrian and a man loses his vehicle after his mom ODs. We break down the highlight from the Portsmouth Police Chief’s Daily Briefing.
Car Flipped Over In The Road
Just after 2 am, a Daniels Drive caller reported a vehicle flipped over in the road. The caller looked inside the front window and said they did not see anyone inside.
When officers arrived on the scene, they found the empty vehicle in the road with a shattered side window but no one inside.
Portsmouth Fire Department assisted with a search for anyone who might have been ejected from the vehicle but did not locate anyone.
Further investigation revealed a trail of fluids that led to Dorman Drive and Pleasant Avenue where an officer found a possible crash scene. The officer found shattered glass. It appeared the vehicle struck the side of the hill.
Another officer contacted the registered owner who said her boyfriend was driving the vehicle. Police impounded the vehicle as abandoned.
Stay Away From My Car
- There have been a string of car break-ins and catalytic converter thefts at the Holiday Inn recently. So, it’s no wonder employees are cautious. At 3:26 am, an employee reported to subjects in the trunk of a vehicle. Police discovered it was just the car’s owner.
- At 3:32 am, a Mabert Road caller reported someone messing around vehicles. Police could not locate any suspects.
Falling Glass Narrowly Misses Man
Just after 8 am, a man walking down Gallia Street reported a large piece of glass fell from the Royal Lounge and crashed into the sidewalk near him.
He reported another large piece of glass handing from a second-story window facing the museum. Police notified city engineering.
Under the Influence
A Thomas Avenue caller found a baggie full of white powder near their apartment at 8:24 am. Police impounded the item.
Tickets and Tows
Police responded to a report of vehicles parked on the sidewalk on Franklin Avenue at 9:24 am. They issued 5 parking tickets and warned a man to move several unlicensed vehicles out of his driveway.
Woman Passes Away
Some of you asked online about police and EMS activity on Harding Avenue. Several units responded to a report of a deceased woman on Harding Avenue just before 10 am. The woman was terminally ill and under the care of Hospice.
The coroner gave permission for a funeral home to transport the deceased.
Hey! That’s My Stuff
Just before noon, a man came to the police department to complain of $80 stolen from him at SOMC. Police took information for a report.
The Central Church of Christ reported both catalytic converters cut off the church van just before 1 pm. Police took information for a report.
A Valley Street caller reported the theft of two black toes full of tools at 6:25 pm. Police took information for a report.
Suspicious Behavior
A High Street caller complained about people going through the trash in the neighborhood at 11:54 am. They complained the people don’t clean up after themselves.
Kids in Danger
CPS requested police assistance removing children from a home at 3:40 pm. The mother failed a drug test.
Mom OD’d and Lost My Car
Police answered a call to 17th Street at 4 pm. A man reported his mother stole his car and it was now at the address.
He told officers his mother overdosed at the Royal Inn the previous night and whoever she was with stole his car. He suspected there might be drugs in the vehicle.
Police stood by as he picked up his car.
Under The Influence
- SOMC contacted police at 9:35 pm to report drugs found on a patient. Police collected them as potential evidence.
- Police responded to a report of an overdose on 11th Street at 10:16 pm.
