A family argument turned into a late-night manhunt in McDermott after deputies say a 30-year-old man bolted from his grandmother’s home, leaping fences and vanishing into the woods before finally being caught.
Scioto County Sheriff’s deputies were called to Henley Deemer Road after reports of a domestic dispute between an elderly woman and her grandson, Dyllan Gillam. When deputies arrived, Gillam sprinted away, clearing two fences before disappearing into the dark tree line.
Possible Gun in Play
The grandmother told deputies the fight was verbal but admitted Gillam might have had a gun. She also warned officers that weapons could be in the garage. With help from an ODNR officer, deputies fanned out across the property, searching barns and outbuildings, but Gillam was nowhere to be found.
Back at the Scene
Roughly 30 minutes later, a 911 caller rang in to say Gillam had returned to the house. Deputies rushed back and finally detained him, ending the search. He was booked into the Scioto County Jail on probation violation and tampering with evidence charges.
A Repeat Offender
Gillam was already on probation for an OVI conviction earlier this summer. A warrant for violating that probation had been issued on September 3. His record stretches back years: driving without a license in 2023, resisting arrest and obstruction in 2021, failure to comply in 2020, and assault plus multiple other charges in 2018.
Deputies Stay Sharp
Though Gillam has a long history of run-ins with the law, deputies say the quick response and persistence shown in this latest chase ensured the situation ended without violence.
