Corrections officers discovered one of their inmates was high as a kite while they were distributing food.
Officers noted that a Lawrence County Jail inmate was so high he couldn’t keep his eyes open. They took the inmate for a drug test, and he tested positive for fentanyl.
The man said the drugs were hidden in the mat in his cell, but officers were unable to find them.
However, they learned the drugs had been moved to a crack at the top of the shower. Officers retried a bag with a powdered substance that tested positive for fentanyl. Officers took photos of the evidence and submitted it to BCI for further testing.
